Last year we had the new season, Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory. This seem to renew our spark for the old Full Metal Panic series. We had a few of the light novels come out once before though. Tokyopop released the first four in 2007, two in 2008, and the forth one almost two years later in 2011. As the books was released starting in 1998 and had a release a year I’m not sure why Tokyopop delayed the 4th book so much, even more so after the first three was each about 4 month apart. Light novels was used to inspire anime a lot less often doing this time frame and truth be told we didn’t seem to care if it didn’t have pictures then. Now with bookstores starting to carry a small selection of light novels J-Novel Club decided to give it another shot.
J-Novel Club said that they plan to do a complete retranslation. This means they likely plan to re-release the first four books. J-Novel Club has licensed all 12 volumes of the main novel series. They also made a statement about how they hope they get enough success and support to release the Sequal and Spinoffs.
I had always liked the Full Metal Panic anime. Watching the first season when it first came out back in 2002. The second season which focus on the slice of life bits release in 2003 called Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu. The next true season of Full Metal Panic Came out in 2006 and it was called Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid. That was the last we got of the beloved Full Metal Panic till the newest season in 2018, a good 12 years after the last season.
