Hidden Gem Manga Review, Not Lives

Not Lives Vol. 1 Cover

What is the Premise?

A high school game designer genius, Mikami soon found himself suck into a Death match of Not Alive. After a strange disk enter his body he finds himself in a strange parallel reality where he becomes the Player of his new female avatar avatar Amamiya Kyouka. With rules to learn, other players to combat, and an omniscient GM overseeing the process, will Shigeru’s gaming skills be enough to survive in this brave new digital world?

What type of Manga is it?

The main focus is it being a survival game. There is a hand full of laughs and well done fight scenes in the manga. The game works somewhat like how Accel World does. Outside of matches you can live normally, only after you done well in the game can you bring any sort of things from the game into the real world. Unlike Accel World the ‘arena’ is the real world, not that anyone outside of the game can see it.

Is it a Hidden Gem?

It give the feeling of being very cliche, and every time you start to expect it you’ll get a curve ball. It does a rather good job of staying fresh doing the 10 volume manga. While it never share every detail with us they give us a good and interesting view of things that are happening. A few twists of the story and it feels like an entertaining read.

Rating : A Shinny Gem!
An Manga worth going out of your way for, Easy liked but not quite a true Gem.
