Hidden Gem Review, Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku

What is the Premise?

Narumi Momose got a new job after she decided to leave the last one, being exposed as an otaku and a fujoshi. Narumi had decided to keep this fact a secret, but her first day don’t go as planned. Not only did she wake up late but her old friend from middle school Hirotaka Nifuji works for the new company and might had blown her cover with her new co-worker when he casually asks her whether or not she will be attending the upcoming Summer Comiket. When Narumi speak about how hard it was dating non otakus Hirotaka suggests that she try dating a fellow otaku, specifically himself.

What type of show is it?

This show portrays a more realistic slice of life story, not making a running gag out of otaku jokes, more so poking fun of shortcomings of dating one. Though the two main couples throughout the show is all otakus so they ~mostly~ understand each other. Though this show is about dating, it comes off more as a slice of life and comedy then a super romantic one.

Narumi finds herself in a tough spot, old school RPG choices pop up as a gag as she thinks what to do next.

Is it a Hidden Gem?

No lie, I enjoy this quite a bit. But this is something that is right up my alley that I’m less likely to tell most of my less geeky friends about. It has a small character cast that mostly focus on 4 people with only two other people really getting any focus as the show go on.

Targeting a Niche group, you ether love it or hate it. For those who isn’t big on the humor they likely would feel the show to be more generic

Rating : A Rough Gem!
An Anime that very much catering to a niche market. It knew what it wanted to do, and did nice job at it.

How much of it is there?
