What is the Premise?
Being kidnapped, Maomao find herself sold to the Imperial castle as a maid. Maomao decided to keep her head down and avoid conflict though because of her knowledge of medicines from being an apothecary’s daughter she notice why the infant children of the emperor was becoming sickly. Not wanting attention she left an anonymous tip, though the clever eunuch Jinshi was quick to take notice of her.
What type of show is it?
Quite the fun show that bundles lore and mystery cases together. Maomao is the lead of the show, and while other add to it, she never is overshadowed by another. What I found to be impressive is when Maomao deduces what is happening in some cases she instead of sharing her findings will sometimes allow other things to happen instead. This happens when her speaking out on a subject might have negative effects on those plots that does not hurt others. This gives a more innocent slice of life feel to some of the mysteries as not everything is a matter of life or death. Though this anime does have a few major plot mysteries with big revolution many are smaller on scale.
Is it a Hidden Gem?
This historical mystery anime is a slow burn, starting more episodic before you start to find connections between the episodes. The connections Maomao makes start distant before slowly warming up.

With it’s strong character writing, eye-catching visuals, and great world building I feel that many would find this to be a favorite anime of theirs
