Hidden Gem Review, Zombie Land Saga

Zombie Land Saga

What is the Premise?

We are introduce to Sakura just a bit before her death. Skip to 10 years later with her waking up as a zombie with no memories  of her past.  The other six girls not ‘awaken’ till the end of the first episode. By this time ‘producer’ Kotaro Tatsumi had apply makeup to the entire cast and they had there first show that was both a spectacular failure and an awe-inspiring spectacle. Kotaro’s goal? It’s to revive the Saga Prefecture with a local Idol group!

What type of show is it?

Being a satire on the Japanese Idols there are many jokes on this many times are lost to us State side. But even with the lost of those jokes there is more incidental gags then you could shake a stick at! The girls don’t really start as Idols but become so doing the show. But many of the events they hold are Drama Filled. Watching the Characters grow was such a great part of the show as well.

The seven zombies to become Idols are from different time frames of Japan and other then Sakura seem to had been a Legendary as said by Kotaro. Including Legendary Kamikaze squad leader, Saki  who was a leader of a biker Gang and the Legendary Courtesan, Yugiri who was dead for 150 years. This makes the group quite an interesting and colorful cast.

Is it a Hidden Gem?

One of the strongest points of this show is the producer. Many Idol animes are biased from games. They don’t normally set a strong personality for the producer. Kotaro is just funny and if you remove him would likely hurt the show more then any single idol in the show. In a show about girls singing it’s surprising that Crunchy Rolls Awards, Best Voice Actor Award (JP) for year 2018 went to Mamoru Miyano for his roll as Kotaro Tatsumi, the manager of the show. A lot of the humor depended on him.

Many times you can genuine emotion from it’s odd ball cast. A few dealing with past issues from when they was alive. One even meet with there parent which they had to avoid admitting up to being related to. All the while keeping the crazy humor you grew to expect from the first episode.

Rating : A True Gem!
An Anime Worth going out of your way for, even likely to be enjoyed by some who isn’t normally into the setting.
